Morning Workshop

Thursday, February 12, 2026

8:00am - 12:00pm

Emilie TalpinFun With Water Drops

In this hands-on workshop, OM SYSTEM ambassador Emilie Talpin will immerse you in the world of water drop photography, also known as refraction. If you are not familiar with this term, refraction is when the light passes from one medium and into another, affecting the direction of the light.

In macro photography, the capture of a background subject into a foreground water drop is a good illustration of refraction. In this workshop, you'll learn how to capture such images and go over the equipment needed as well as techniques and tips to make a successful photo. The slightly higher fee for this workshop includes the cost of a special tool used for this technique that is yours to keep. COST: $110 (Non-Member $125)

David Akoubian: Creating Miniature Still-life and Abstract Macro Scenes

Macro photography is one of the most challenging genres of photography but can also be one of the most rewarding as well. When you learn good techniques for macro it carries over into your other work, like landscapes and even wildlife photography. The overwhelming majority of prints that I sell are macro or abstract images because of their lack of a definitive theme, which allows interior decorators to use them more often simply for complementary colors or shapes.

David Akoubian's workshop will help you hone your macro skills and learn to organize the chaos of abstract photography. He will talk about portable lighting as well as camera settings to achieve the proper depth of field needed for macro. A macro lens is ideal, but any lens capable of focusing close, preferably allowing the photographer a 1:4 ratio or closer will work. COST: $100 (Non-Member $125)

She will also provide participants with files to practice things covered during the workshop.

Guided practice time will allow participants to do hands-on work with Mary’s support. After working with the practice files, participants will begin creating composites and collages using their own nature photography images. COST: $100 (Non-Member $125)
