Falls Lake – west side Photo Outing

We will meet in the parking lot of the Pizza Mia Grill on Cheek Road that is about a mile or so from the lake. From there we can drive separately or carpool to 2 different nearby sites that will provide us with some nice photo opportunities.

Expect to see: Various shoreline landscapes including Cypress trees, boats and fisher-men/women, Cormorants and Herons, the Swallows may be building nests under the Cheek Road Bridge, there may be sightings of Eagles, Osprey, Kingfisher, Warblers, Shore birds, etc. etc. It will be your own choice for lens selection of what you want to concentrate on. A macro for details, or a wide angle for the landscapes, or a telephoto for Herons and other birds we expect to see.

Meet at: Pizza Mia Grill Parking Lot (temporarily closed) – 5801 Cheek Rd. Durham 27704
Please be there before 8:00 am, and we will leave promptly by 8:05 or 8:10 at the latest.

Stop 1 – The Mountain to Sea Trail where a section of boardwalk crosses the lake.
Stop 2 – Hike the shore line near the Cheek Road Bridge. I will just wear hiking boots, but if it rains the day before I will probably wear rubber boots because of mud. Rubber boots will allow for interesting shots and close-ups of cypress trees in the shallow water. This is not on a maintained trail, so shorts are not recommended. Depending on the lake level, we may be walking around brush and briars and need to step over fallen trees.

Lunch: The grill is temporarily closed, but may open by the time of the event. TBD
Option 2: (If grill is not open) Las Palmas Mexican, 3801 Wake Forest Hwy #114, Durham, NC 27703
