| Landscape: | If you choose to include people or man-made objects, they cannot occupy more than 25% of the scene and should not be the main subject. |
| Wildlife: | No captive or domesticated animals or pets. |
| Captive: | Captive wildlife images taken at zoos, game farms, aquariums, raptor centers and other protected sites (again, no domestics or pets). |
| Plant Life: | All plants, flowers, gardens, etc. Insects should be entered in Wildlife category. |
| Birds: | No captive or domesticated birds or pets. |
| Creative: | Images taken and post-processed with special filters, effects and software, any of the above category areas. |
In all categories, images displaying hunting behaviors by wildlife are allowed, but no isolated images of dead wildlife will be accepted.
Post-exposure optimization (except for the Creative category): All processing
and enhancement of images, whether through digital or traditional photographic
procedures, should be limited to image editing that compensates for limitations
inherent in the photographic process, such as color corrections, dodging & burning,
overall lighting or darkening, noise reduction, sharpening, lens distortion
correction, and cropping. Monochrome and infrared images are allowed. Substantial
changes to the images, such as adding, removing or moving of image elements,
and use of “artistic filters” should be avoided.
HOW TO ENTER: Any member can upload images in a high-resolution
file to our website by November 28, 2009. Images will be fully protected
and be viewable only from a low-resolution copy (generated by the website).
The high-resolution images will only be on the server and inaccessible
from the website.
The submissions should be a high quality JPEG at the highest resolution your
carmera can produce. The high resolution file is required for printing of
the winning entries for the calendar and for display at the Annual Meeting.
AWARDS: Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd in all categories,
except for the Best of Show image. The Best of Show winner will receive
$200. The 1st and 2nd place winners will receive $100 and $75 respectively.
We will also recognize an additional 12 Honorable Mentions.
Best of Show will be the image gaining the highest number of votes from
one of the 6 categories. The next highest in that category will be 2nd
place.
CALENDARS: We are printing a calendar of the Best of Show
and other 11 top photos. All contest participants will receive one (1)
complimentary copy of the calendar. Other members can order the calendar
from the publisher. They will be available at the Annual Meeting to attendees...
others will be shipped.
SLIDESHOW: At the Annual Meeting in Greensboro, there will be
a musical slideshow of ALL of the images, and a musical slideshow of
the winning entries as prizes are awarded. The winning photos will be
printed and the winners may take their print home with them.
