I'm going to make a suggestion that this be called the "Coastal" rather than "Outer Banks" forum, since Outer Banks is rather limiting in concept, and I suspect (know) that I'm not the only member living inland. The general tendency, from the media to government is to focus on the Outer Banks, especially during the tourist season. Just for starters, we have Dismal Swamp NWR and now Dismal Swamp State Park...so come on, spread those arms a little wider and embrace the rest of us! :D

We have been using this name for this area as a potential region for several years, first mentioned to the members at the annual meeting 2 years ago but under discussion at the board level for a year before that.

So when we decided to go for the expanded regions this year OBX was the logical choice. We had not heard any other suggestions during that 2-3 year period.

There would be a cost involved making all of the changes on the website, mostly changing the regional map.

At the most recent Board Meeting there was a discussion regarding the name of the OBX region. It was the general consensus that the current name of Outer Banks region offered the best description of the area. I know that it doesn't acknowledge the mainland/inland areas in its title, but from a broader perspective it does immediately identify the region. A "coastal" region could be anywhere.

Thanks for the idea. Your continued input in shaping this region will be very important.

Mark,

Thanks for the information. My apologies for this late reply, but I'm guilty of not checking the forum lately. I appreciate that you took the time to bring this up. After our discussion on the shoot I felt like the name would stand, but as I hope you realize, it certainly isn't a critical issue with me and I can live with the name as it stands. You're right, "Coastal" is a little generic. So - now on to bigger and better things!:)
