May Meeting New Location

Hello All,
I believe the next Charlotte CNPA meeting will not be at the YMCA but rather at the Charlotte Aquatic Center on 800 East Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.(formerly East 2nd St.) Charlotte, NC 28202. I am assuming the time is the same but would like to know where in the center the meeting will be held? Should I bring my trunks and NIKONOS? Can someone in the know enlighten us further?

Good morning Edgar and all! Yes, as of right now, our next meeting will be at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center that is located on the corner of E Martin Luther King Blvd (formerly E 2nd St) and S McDowell St. The meeting times and dates have not changed (still the 2nd Wednesday of the month from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.). They actually only have one classroom (that I am aware of) and that is where we will be. It is not quite as big as I would like, so I had not communicated anything yet because I am still trying desperately to pursue other options. As of right now, that is where we'll be (due to the cost doubling at the Dowd YMCA), but please be on the lookout for an email announcement or new Forum posting because if I can find a better room that is still affordable, I'll go with that one. If anyone in the membership has any ideas, connections, or recommendations, please let me know as we are definitely open for suggestions. Take care and I'll talk to you soon! Thanks! :)DJGD

Any easy directions on how to get to the Aquatic center?

I did a Google Map search and found the attached map that I think will put you at the right location. Basically get off I-77 on I-277. Get off I-277 at S Caldwell Street exit, go two blocks to E 2nd Street (now called East Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.) and turn right. Go 2 blocks and there it is (800 East Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.). The green "A" marks the spot on the attached map.

I hope someone confirms my directions as I've never been there.

Your directions would have been great six months ago, except now there is no exit for Caldwell St. or S. Blvd. That is where they are building the new NASCAR Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, we here in NC have lots of places to go. We just have no roads to get there.

Everyone, it's pretty easy to get to the Aquatic Center by taking the College St exit off of I-277 and turning right onto Martin Luther King (formerly known as 2nd street). I go this way to work every day, so know the road is still there! :D As Robert said, the entrance into the Aquatic Center is off of 2nd, so you will turn right into the parking lot. If you meet up with McDowell, ya went too far....

OK - I want to apologize for not responding sooner to the request for directions to the Aquatic Center. I post-poned doing so as I have still been working in the background trying to get us a better location for our meetings. What I mean by better is less expensive and more space in the meeting room than the one at the Aquatic Center. Well, it seems that the planets have aligned and I'll be able to post information on that Monday night, May 5, at the latest (I'm waiting on one more confirmation email so I have all the information together to publish it). I hope everyone will like it. I'm very excited about it as it will be at no cost to CNPA for the meeting room - which is a huge first for the Charlotte region. If you have been following this thread please know this meeting location is no more. It never was. There is information regarding our newest new location in another thread. It is at UNCC in a classroom near the greenhouses.

Hope to see everyone there on Wednesday evening.
