I am finding Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens to be a great place to take pictures. I like the fact that there is a place near Charlotte where I can take pictures no matter what the weather. I am putting my membership there to good use since I am currently taking some online photography classes. With all the overcast days, having subjects to shoot in the orchid conservatory where I get good light, no gray sky backgrounds, and no worries that it might start to rain is nice.

I think we all love this place all year round.

DSBG had their yearly Wild Wings Festival today, which includs a presentation on hummingbirds and hummingbird banding. It was full of good info and fun pictures too. This is the first year that they had previously banded birds return.

Thought I'd share this picture. Awfully small bling. And before the comment is made that this is more than 25% hand of man, I must inform you that it isn't man it is hand of woman. :)

Hello fellow members,

Just thought I would mention that the butterfly s are hatching out by the dozens at the greenhouse at DSBG. Ann, Alec and myself were there today, Sat the 29th and the room had many to shoot. Most were rather still on flowers drying their wings from just being out of the cocoon.
We have found that weekday mornings are the best time to shoot as there are fewer people. They have not outlawed tripods there either which is a plus.

Also, the Thursday night openings have been extended to continue until the end of September! Evening shots in the Orchid House might prove interesting - and cooler! :D

I was just at the gardens this morning and there are still plenty of butterflys, Pretty hot near the middle of the day but some species other than the plentiful Monarch were in the air. Swallowtails I believe, Yellow and black but they would not stay still like the others. There were lots of others yet to hatch out as well.
