Oh man the D4 apparently will be "substantially lighter" than the D3 and have an incredible ISO Range of 100-102,000! And can shoot it at 50 or 204,000 - the latter I guess Hi 1. Man if this is true and its low light capabilities are really good at >12,500, and it AF in a better fashion it may do real well. According to Nikon Rumors beginning availability in Feb! I'll bet however not many folks who want it can get it that soon.

Now to find an extra 6K I am not using for anything else...
I wonder if it will share the same battery that the current D2 and D3 utilize? Not looking forward to having another charger and more battery types..

You know I can't help it Tom.... Now to get my hands on one....I realize it won't make me a better photographer but I like the bells and whistles it offers...If nothing else I can produce more bad photos per second with it..

I do not see that it offers much over the D3s apart from video to make me want to sell mine, Its only 3oz lighter, Theres a new lower capacity battery and 2 different card slots which is a pain, I am sure it will be a great camera and there are some nice tweeks over the D3s, I think i will be keeping mine for at least another 12 months so plenty of time to read tests and get the firmware upgrades sorted etc

Hi Dave,
If you look closer you will see that the D4 offers better high ISO performance over the D3s (how much is yet to be seen but I have heard another 1.5 stops with similar noise) as well as about 40% more pixel density which is not significant until you need to crop.
The metering and auto focus system is much improved, not that I have ever had any metering issues with my D700 and D3 but the new system will auto focus faster than previous models and down to an effective aperture of f8.0....That is a big help when using tele converters with lenses that are native at f4.0.
And further the ability to control the camera wireless via a browser interface on any smart phone or Ipad type device will have some neat applications for remote blind shooting.
I agree the change in battery style sucks and the addition of a new card format will likely only be realized to it's full potential when shooting HD video do not excite me but there are more than a few changes..And the illuminated function buttons are a nice touch too.
I will agree that the differences in performance are not as great upgrading from a D3s vs a D700 or standard D3. Those folks should see around 3 stops of improved high ISO performance..

I have seen people saying that ISO 6400 will look like ISO 3200 on the D3s but i have yet to see any evidence of it, The images i have seen so far look about the same as the D3s,I hope that there is an improvement and we will have to wait and see when the new bodies hit the streets,

I am anxious to see some actual files myself...
If past history is any judge each model has shown noted improvement over the last in ISO with the exception of the D3x, that due to the double pixel density twice the resolution.
Only time will tell. Just glad I held off on the D3s personally.
