Hello Everyone:

I volunteered to organize and lead the November Photo Safari/Outing to Chincoteague, Va. If you have not heard of Chincoteague and Assateague Island National Seashore, you owe it to yourself to google it and be enlightened. The NANPA chose this area for one of their Regional Events. The time we are going in November (Weekend of 8 Nov) puts us smack dab in the middle of the bird migration season plus Tuesday (11/11) is a holiday for some. I am very excited about this and have started working already to make sure everything is properly organized.

My thoughts at the moment are that we will expect most folks to arrive in Chincoteague in the afternoon of Friday, 7 Nov. We will do a sunset thing on Friday and then go to dinner together. I will arrange to reserve a block of rooms at the Refuge. Further plans for Saturday and Sunday are in development and I will share with you as they materialize. Plans are to rap up and head home Monday afternoon!!

I am now gauging interest in such an outing/adventure. Please respond to this thread (quick reply will work well) if you are interested and please provide any suggestions you might have for the weekend!!

The list of interested folks as of Aug 6 are:

1. Donald Brown
2. Russ Gavitt
3. Donna Eaton
4. John Schornak
5. Debra Dandro
6. Marsha Wright
7. Don Wuori (from the Midlands)
8. Ken Barrett
9. Tom Dills
10. Charlie Smith (Blueridge61@msn.com)
11. Craig Sumerell
12. Dawnita Hall
13. Mark Hoyle
14. Toby Hilton
15. Jennifer Carroll
16. Edgar Payne/Ann
17. Shirley Harris
18. George Lovelace
19. Amy Stukey
20. Guy Bryant
21. John Cress
22. Bill and Berna Edmonds

I will update this list every weekend and also update you on the plans!!

It was brought to my attention that Tuesday, 11/11, is a holiday which gives the possibility of a Friday to Tuesday Outing and those interested in the workshop could do the workshop and then spend a day or so "free" shooting. Would anyone be interested in my pursuing this with Bill and Linda Lane? If the numbers are low we could schedule our regular outing for 9-10-11 (Sun-Tues) and this would leave those that wanted to register for one of the 10 slots still open for the 11/7-9 workshop and then enjoy the group outing starting afternoon Sunday 11/9 and ending around noon Tuesday, 11/11.

Let's hear your feedback!!:)

Add my name to the list also. Thanks.

Personally, I am not sure I can afford to do the trip and the classes. But either way, I may go. Are there any good camping spots near where we are going? I would love to camp instead of stay in a hotel. Would anyone else be interested in camping?

Dawn,
I am sure there are options for campers in the area. Just google Chincoteague and camping and see what you find. If interesting, post here for others to share!!

Where is the group planning on lodging? That would help determine which campground.

I think the Pine Grove Campground looks good, but I am open to suggestions if someone else knows the area better.

Dawn,
In about a month I will attempt to make arrangements with the Refuge Inn to reserve a block of rooms for us. Hopefully, by then, I will have a better idea of how large our party will be!

Try http://www.chincoteague.com/accomodations.html . this site lists hotels, motels and campground facilities in the area.

Some of you may have met Jennifer Carroll at the meeting this week. I received today a very good suggestions from her for our Chincoteague trip. Rather than try to paraphrase I will just copy the text of her email.

"Hey Don,
Due to the ever increasing cost of fuel, are we going to make an organized effort to carpool for this trip? If so, I have an offer for everyone to think about. We will be taking the truck...a Dodge Ram 2500...with a camper top. There will be plenty of room to stow baggage for anyone/everyone interested. While we can only transport 2 people, I figure that if we carried all the suitcases, there would be more room for people and their camera equipment in fewer vehicles. Like I said, something to think about! Thanks!

Jennifer N. Taylor (aka Jennifer Carroll on CNPA)"

What do you think...Any takers?

Question: Is anyone taking their significant other with them even though they do not have the photo interest? Al would like to go on the trip, but he would like to do other things alot of the time we are there. He's much happier doing historical stuff....(yawn!! :) )

I don't know their current plans BUT both Donna and Debra were planning to drag their significant others along!

Mr. B.,

I won't be able to make this trip, so scratch my name from the list. I know you guys will have a great time and I hope you get some wonderful shots.

Thanks!
John
