Our outing for August will be this Sat.the 6th, at Cataloochee Valley. The gate to the valley will open at 8 AM. I am trying to find out if we can walk in before 8 Will let you know about that if and when I find out.
Directions from Rutherford Co are
Take 74 bypass west to I-26
'Take I 26 west to I 40
Take I-40 West to Exit 20 right to US 276 toward Maggie Valley
Keep right on US 276
go about 1/4 mile and turn right on Old NC 284.
You will stay on this road and it will turn into a dirt road as it goes up the mountain.
After you go down the west side of mountain you will turn left onto a paved road.
this road will lead to Cattaloochee Valley.
GPS says it will take 1 hr and 45 min.
Meet at the gate in front of rangers house at 8 AM unless we can walk in early for the ones that want to get in early.
