CNPA- Myrtle Beach Region
January 20, 2008
Coordinator Kim Jones called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.
In attendance
12 members & 1 guest in attendance: Anne Malarich, Liza Van Horn, Victor Gerbich, Lori Gerbich, Jim Braxmeier, Ron Blanchard, , Everet Baird, Pat Schirtzinger, Kim Jones, Frank Perrotta, Terry Shoemaker, Betty Kay O’Connell & Bonnie Eaglin.

Old Business
Gallery 57: Kim thanked the members who participated in December’s exhibit. We hope to make this an annual event.
Brookgreen Project: We will be setting up a date for the group to help with planting the Spring Garden, setup of Blue Bird Houses, CNPA will be responsible for maintaining butterfly/bird garden near the zoo. In return Brookgreen will post a sign giving CNPA recognition. They also need photos of birds for signs. Please make sure you have a gallery on the main CNPA website if you would like to donate a picture for these signs. More details at the next meeting.
Outing committee: Ron Blanchard working on February date for Yawkey Wildlife Center – Bonnie will make call to Dr. Richard Moore – one of the biologist on the project to see if he can help us secure a Saturday date. Ron also gathering information on a trip to Walterboro. Tentative outing calendar for the next 4 months:
-Feb 16: Huntington unless we can get into Yawkey
-March 15: IBOP as well as possible work day at Brookgreen
-Apr 19: Waccatee Zoo
-May 17: Walterboro- overnight trip- details coming
High School Photo Competition: Decision was made to table this competition this year in favor of getting internal committees up and running first. Ann asked if any members were interesting in acting as judges for the Waccamaw High School competition in May. Bonnie, Frank & Ron volunteered.
Photowild: One day events on 3/29, 3/30 & 4/5 at the Carolina Raptor Center. Cost is $85 for each day. Individual members are responsible for making their own reservations. (this is not a CNPA trip. We just provided this information incase some of the members were interested in doing this on their own.)
CNPA Web Site: still a work in progress – old CNPA Myrtle Beach site will re-direct you to the main CNPA web site. To see information about the Myrtle Beach region, click on forums. Hopefully new website will be up and running sometime around the annual meeting.
New Business
Changes for 2008: Kim reviewed committee setups from other regions and it was decided to focus on three areas: Outings, Exhibits/Competitions and Programs/Education. Members attending tonight’s meeting were asked to sign up for one of the three committees. Kim will send an e-mail to all CNPA Myrtle Beach Members to solicit participation in the committees.
Opportunities of interest to members: Santee Birding & Nature Event on 4/18,19 & 20; SC Sierra Club is seeking photographs for an upcoming calendar (Jim Braxmeier has info) and Seacoast Artists Guild will have opportunities in the future for photographers to participate in planned shows (Ron Blanchard has info).
Town Planner Calendar: Kim reminds members that Town Planner Calendar will be looking for photographs of events throughout the year. Specs for photo submissions will be available at the next meeting.
CNPA Annual Meeting: CNPA has requested images of Myrtle Beach members in action to use in a presentation at the annual meeting. Images should be 1024 hz x 768 vert – max file size should be 200K – photos should be emailed to Kimjonesphoto@aol.com (Kimjonesphoto@aol.com) by February 5th.
Workshop Suggestions: Suggestions for another indoor photoshop class and an outdoor photo safari.
CNPA Web Site: Kim reviewed all the different sections of the main CNPA web site.
