Blue Dasher Dragonfly

I captured these dragonflies last summer at a pond in Buncombe County. I believe they are a male and female Blue Dasher. I assume they were mating. If I would have used some fill in flash I think it would have brought out some more details. Taken with a Nikon D50, F4.8, 70-300mm lens. I'm not sure of the shutter speed or ISO. I did use a tripod. Any comments are welcome!

Interesting photo, Jeremy. I don't think I have seen this particular behaviour before. Agree about the ID and the flash but I am certainly no expert on either matter.

Interesting image, not sure what they are up too. Maybe a biologist will comment on the action???

Like the image and not sure either what their up to. I have a very similar image - probably mating but look forward to Roberts comments.
