Hey all,

We have an outing scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 11 to the Shining Rock Wilderness area on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

We'll meet in the parking lot at the end of Black Balsam Road (milemarker 420.2 -- about 1.5 miles past Graveyard Fields) around 8:15 a.m. We'll be hiking the 2.5 mile loop trail. There should be plenty of goldenrod, aster and hopefully butterflies (I saw quite a few when I hiked the first 1/4 of the trail on Saturday to check it out). It is surrounded by mountains and offers plenty of photographic opportunities. I would rate the hike moderate.

Suggested equipment: wide angle lens, macro lens, tripod, telephoto lens, polarizer, graduated neutral density filter, layered clothing and rain gear (hopefully we won't need it).

Bring a lunch and plenty of water. Hike should last about a half day until maybe 1 p.m. depending on what everybody finds to photograph.

We are not meeting for sunrise, although that is a possibility for anybody who wants to get up there early.

Please email me to let me you are planning on coming and I'll send my cell phone number.

On Sunday, we'll meet at 3:30 p.m. at the Photo School of the Upstate at 205 Wilton Ave. (off Stone between Rutherford and Main). The library meeting room was unavailable for this month.

Our speaker is Les Saucier, a professional photographer from Asheville, and his program will be on macro photography.

We've also got a few other things to talk about.
See you this weekend.

Cindy
