No bugs this time...:)

This is a weed that seems to be kind of common. It grows in my vegetable garden every year and normally get yanked out. I was chasing a grasshopper when this caught my eye. Let me know what you think and also identify this weed if you can.

BTW, Robert, this was taken with a Lester A. Dine 105mm as were most of my bug shots.:D Rescued that lens from a pawn shop along with the Fuji S1 Pro.

Looks like one of the clovers. If you have some pictures that are "less artistically balanced?" and show more of the plant, shoot them to me via e-mail or something.

Yep, those macros are pretty sharp (especially the older ones).

I like the composition & colors on this one.

Can you tell us more about the Lester Dine lenses? I am not familiar with them but they certainly do the job very nicely

Great detail! I also want to know more about this lense. Nice job.

Thanks, Robert. I will try to get a better photo for identification in the spring.

Don, Robert probably knows more about the Lester Dine lenses than I do. All I know is that they were sold as part of a medical/dental photography kit along with the Fuji S1 and a ring flash.

Here is what I think I know about the Lester A. Dine lens:

For current info check out www.dinecorp.com.

I think their current lenses are made by Sigma? Their older lenses were made by Kiron (Kiro Prescision?) in Japan and have somewhat of a cult status. They are big & heavy compared to "modern" macro lenses. They have a 1 3/4 barrel turn manual focus system that takes you from 1:10 to 1:1; it is slow, steady, & SMOOTH. Since a LOT of macro photography is manual focus anyway, it really isn't that much of a hindrance for macro photography. Aperature ranges from f/2.8 to f/32.0. The lense is optically a great lens and is very sharp & produces very nice bokeh.

I've got a buddy who (so far at least) can almost always recognize a shot that I have taken with that lens - whether macro or not.

Interesting about the lens, from what I've seen "sharp" is a pretty good description. This does look like a clover, just opened some and with less density in the flower part. Nice shot, sharp and the colors pop.
