Blue Heron?

I shot this Heron today at Lake Julian in Asheville, NC. I believe it is either a Great Blue or Little Blue Heron. The lighting was a little tricky. Exposure was ISO 400, 1/320, F10 with a Nikon D50. I'm a new member so this is my first post. Any comments or tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Jeremy,

This is a Great Blue Heron for sure. These guys are about 4-5 feet tall while a little blue is less than halve as large. Nice first image.

Yep, definitely a great blue heron.

I really like the composition & the complementary coloration in this shot.

The harsh lighting, however, was not your friend today. A neat shot, but with the harsh lighting, your camera couldn't pick up the details in the shaded side of the bird.

Nice shot. Not sure how far away you were but maybe a little flash might have helped you pick up some of the detail on this side since the sun was not working with you. That is something I still have a hard time with....using flash....when to and when not to? Good luck and keep them coming!!
