A Crab Spider set up to ambush the next visitor to my butterfly bush.

This was taken in August of 2005 with my old Fuji S1 in natural light at ISO 400. The 105mm lens I had at the time was totally manual and did not pass information to the camera so very limited EXIF information. This photo has not been cropped.

I finally got my gallery loaded... some pictures there of things other than bugs. :)

Great shot! I love the saturation & the stark differences between the deep purple of the Buddleia and the pale, chalky coloration of the crab spider. The yellow of the flower corolla and the yellow tips of the spider's chelicera help tie the two together pretty well. Congratulations on another fine macro...

Butch,

I really like the composition and the position of the spider but what blows me away are the colors. Very nice.

Very nice picture. The colors were the first thing to grab my attention also. I like how the background is such a smooth green.

Thanks everybody. The Fuji didn't have lots pixles and was terribly noisy by todays standards but it did have the best color straight from the camera than any I have owned since.

It is hard to get a good purple out of digital, so well done on the colors! I thought the spider was going to jump off the screen. I really like that the spider is slightly angled in the frame. Nice composition! :)
