A Lynx Spider with a meal. It is amazing to me that they can quickly subdue prey that is as large or larger than they are.
This was taken with a Fuji S1 with extension tubes and the Nikon 70-300 zoom set to F-8, 400 ISO. Onboard flash with homemade diffuser mounted on the end of the lens.

WOW Butch, I'm think you like to do macro photography, and you do it quite well I might add. Beautiful shot, I don't have anything close to this so all I can say is GREAT SHOT!!!
Can you give us any specifics, like what aperture was this shot at? The DOF is amazing.

This is a great shot. It's a good thing you were there when it caught it. The colors are amazing. Good job!

Thanks, Robert and Nathanael.
I will try not to bore everybody with bugs.:) I do find them more cooperative than human subjects though.
Exif on this one shows F-8 but the full set of extension tubes seems to push aperature by about 2 stops (F-16 effective). I liked the zoom lens / extension tube combination a lot as it allowed me to compose in camera as the Fuji didn't have any pixles to spare for cropping later.

Cool action shot! I really like the colors of the brown-eyed susan, green spider, & orange & black wasp with a smooth darker green background. Great composition & DOF.
Keep the little stuff coming!
I'm definitely glad that green lynx spiders aren't as big as our hands, or we would be carrying little short-barrelled shotguns to protect ourselves! Those are some neat hunting animals!
Thanks for sharing.

Great shot! Gets me thinking about spring and getting geared up for macro again. Thanks for posting this shot as think its one of the best macro shots that has been up on the critique.

Thanks, Robert and Don. Can't wait for spring to get here... A late frost followed by drought in this area killed loads of insects and flowers last spring. Hopefully this will be a better year.

Very nice Butch! Love the colors. These Green Lynx spiders seem to be pretty territorial...they just like to hang out and wait for dinner to come to them!
We've taken quite a beating from the drought here in southeastern NC too...hopefully, it will turn around soon.
