Carolina Chickadee

I shot this chickadee at Gary Carter's backyard habitat. His place in NC is a perfect place to practice your technique on small birds. I had to give a little on the whites to be able to get some detail in the blacks.

Shot with a Canon 1DMkIIn, 500 mm IS, tripod, from a permanent blind. 50% crop from original.

Great shot! (I thought I recognized that cypress knee....). Yep, once the sun gets up, it is tough to decide whether to expose for the blacks or whites...
