Palo Duro Canyon State Park - Amarillo Texas

Part of the second longest canyon in the US the Palo Duro Canyon runs for 150 miles with much of the canyon under private ownership. Quite a geological story here with the canyon less then a millon years old and 600-800 feet deep. Visiting the area for afew days and was at the state park yesterday. Saw some beautiful landscapes plus a coyote and some mule deer. It was generally overcast. Used a D300 and 18-200 VR S lens handheld. Also saw afew Texas longhorns for the first time - quite a sight but guess we can't post those here:)

Beautiful place. You say much of it is privately owned. Were you shooting from a road or were you allowed to explore a bit?

This state park certainly allows some exploring and this was taken a bit off the road.

Nice shot Don, I love the colors and layers. Wish you had some blue sky. Didn't know you like longhorns, we have a bunch of them over near the swallow-tailed kite field.
