Please read through this thread in its entirety as it contains lots of important information.

Hello Everyone! I hope you all had a great Christmas holiday and wonderful 2007. As this year comes to a close, I wanted to send out this email with a thank you and several announcements. I’ll break it up into sections to make it easier to go through…

THANK YOU for a great 2007!
First, I wanted to thank everyone for an awesome year. Don and I have had a wonderful time working with everyone and getting to know you all and look forward to another great year in 2008. For the December Social, thank you to all of you who attended the meeting and participated in the print competition. Hope you all enjoyed the food and goodies (thank you to the Dowd YMCA for doing our catering, my step-Mom for the delicious fudge, and Ann Larsen for bringing the veggies), camaraderie, and enjoying seeing each others photography. Despite a lot of people being out of town for the holiday, we had a record attendance of 40 people and a lot of beautiful prints were on display. The “Members in Action” slideshow was a HUGE success – many, many thanks to John Schornak for organizing the many photos that were submitted (thank you to all those who participated too) and manning the laptop and projector so that everyone could enjoy them. Also thanks to Marsha Wright and Russ Gavitt for assisting me in counting the ballots and announcing the winners of the print competition. Speaking of the Members Choice Print Competition, here are the winners:

* Landscape – Second went to Tom Dills and First went to Donna Eaton
* Macro – Second went to Edgar Payne and First went to Brian Honey
* Water – Second went to Russ Gavitt and First went to Ken Barrett
* Wildlife – Four way tie for First to Jeff Averill, Ken Barrett, Donna Eaton, and Brian Honey

In addition, I’m including the 2007 Calendar as a way to review this year and see how many things we accomplished.

2008 Calendar of Events
The other item {was attached to the email but now in separate thread on website} is the 2008 Calendar showing that we have a jam packed year to look forward to. It was officially released for the first time via hard copy at our December meeting and now via soft copy in this email. In addition, it is now out on the Charlotte Region Forum on the CNPA website. It is saved as a Sticky and will remain as the top thread for easy access. Please review the document (and yes, it has already had updates) and let me know your thoughts. As you can tell, it is still a work in progress as we are still working through some of the details. If you have an idea for a future meeting or outing, or would like to lead one of the outings that still have TBD for the leader, please let me know. In addition, we need your participation as some of the outings will not occur if we don’t have enough people signup (this will be announced with the specific detailed outing information, if it is applicable).

Request for Photos
As I stated earlier, a lot of you participated in my request for “members in action” photos but there are quite a few folks out there who I know have some really good member photos but we haven’t seen them yet. Well, it’s not too late to send me those pictures. In addition to putting together our own Charlotte Region slide show, we also need them for the Annual Meeting slide show. All of the ones that were submitted and used in our December Social will be forwarded on to the CNPA Board and could show up at the Annual Meeting. As a reminder, please size your photos so that the long side is no more that 1024 pixels. My deadline for submissions is Monday, January 7, so that I have time to prepare them to send to the Board.

Membership Renewals
Yes, it is that time again. We just saw a recent report and a lot of our current members have not renewed yet. This is very important that you do so for several reasons. First, the Board is planning the Annual Meeting and need all the memberships up-to-date. Second, if you don’t renew by end of day on Monday, December 31, you will lose your privileges which include access to the members’ areas on the website. When renewing your membership, please keep the following policies in mind:

* Non-members or visitors are limited to attending two CNPA events (two meetings, two outings, or one of each). Beyond that, they need to join to continue participation.
* If you have family members (spouse and/or dependents) attending CNPA events with you, the same policy above applies and one should renew their membership as a Family membership.
* Members under the age of 18 should be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times during CNPA events.

Renewing online at www.cnpa.org is very easy. Simply click on Member Login and then login using your User Name and Password. From there, click on Renew Membership and enter your information. You may use PAYPAL (I used PAYPAL and entered my personal Credit Card information). Membership prices are as follows:

* Regular – $35/year
* Family – $45/year
* Senior (Over 59) – $30/year
* Student (Under 19) – $15/year

If you have already renewed and need to upgrade to a Family membership, simply mail the difference along with a note to Carolinas’ Nature Photographers Association, PO Box 245, Williston, SC 29853.

Annual Meeting
All members should be receiving the packets for the Annual Meeting in the mail in January. When they mail the packet, they will send an email letting everyone know that they are on there way. The Annual Meeting will be in Charleston, SC on April 10-13. They have a full schedule of great speakers (check them out on the CNPA website). A new feature this year is that you can register by PAYPAL (for those who do not want to write a check) which will give you an instant confirmation.

One Non-CNPA Announcement
For those of you who typically participate in the Grandfather Mountain Nature Photography Weekend, please note that the online registration date has been changed from January 1 to April 1, 2008. They believe that moving the registration time closer to the actual event, fewer people will drop out at the last minute. The dates for this event are May 30 – June 1 and Richard Bernabe, Jack Daulton, Bill Lea, Charles Needle, and Nancy Rotenberg are the speakers.

As always, if you have any questions, please let me know. Many thanks again for a wonderful 2007. We wish you all a joyous and prosperous 2008! Happy New Year! :)DJGD
