I tried (several times) to get this guy as he came back up from a dive, and this is one of the keeper shots that I liked.
Nikon D70, Nikkor 400 mm, f/4.0, 1/1000th second, ISO 200, beanbag, cropped to about 60% of frame.

Nice job Robert, I've tried with zero success trying to predict where ducks will surface just so I could get a shot like this. You did a great job here and the duck is tack sharp to boot. If there is a trick how you can predict their "re-entry into the atmosphere" please share.

I can't do it in deep water either, but in less than 18" of water it is a lot easier! The trick is catching diving ducks feeding in water that shallow!

Ah yes in shallow water. Its a great shot and love the water running over its back:)

Good capture of this duck. Nice job getting it right after surfacing.
