Well this has been so secretive but not really. I am so content with my D3 so won't go for this one. Video doesn't interest me at this point maybe in the future. Was hoping they would release some new lenses but only the 85 micro. What do you Nikon shooters think of these releases and what are you hoping for ?. I look forward to the next DX replacement of the D300s (Don't have that one either!)

I'm kinda wondering what all the "video" hype is about, truthfully. If I really want to take video, I'll purchase something dedicated for that purpose...not that I haven't thought on numerous occasions "hey, wouldn't it be cool to have some video of this too?" I guess I feel it's a bit over the top with the bells and whistles.
I'm still interested in the D700 over the D300, but I prefer the D300's price tag.
Always something new to put on the wish list!

Hi Don and Susan,
I too am not sold on the addition of video to a still SLR camera. Having shot video with broadcast quality Sony and Panasonic video camcorders it seems unnatural to handle the SLR for video capture. It looks like a new accessory market is developing for this new style of video camera. Brackets for shoulder handling and audio interface boxes allowing pro grade balanced XLR audio inputs. I have seen some remarkable video produced by this style of camera however I don't think it is for me. The lower noise high ISO performance excites me more. I am not ready to trade my D700 for the new D3s. It will be nice to see the price of the original D3 relaxed a bit. Hopeful??

A couple of years ago at the Camera Clinic on Grandfather Mountain, we were wowed by a couple of presenters from the newspaper/journalism world. One in particular showed several multimedia slideshows he had produced for the purposes of supporting the grant process for Doctors without Borders. Absolutely powerful multimedia shows including stills, video, and sound.
One of the points he made was that increasingly, newpaper photographers are sent out on assignment expected to bring back BOTH still and video coverage of a story. He can do this either by carrying triple the amount of equipment or by using the new technology afforded him with DSLR/Video capable cameras.
Now I don't know if the video in DSLRs is up to stuff yet, but there is a segment of the population that thinks this merging of technologies is a good thing!!

Don makes a good point that perhaps this video feature will be just right for photojournalists. Maybe in the future but for me but now technology still to new, and am very content where I am. Would I guess be nice to have this capability if you come on something really neat to get stills and video. Been looking at material on Nikon Cafe and from what I can gather will not be a massive shift from D3 to D3s and think the used D3 market prices won't move terribly much but then who nows! The used D3 prices haven't changed much so far. What I really want are some new lenses. Ex. replacement or updating of 80-400 VR. Rumors about a 100-500 next year but if so I'll bet it will be heavy. Would be nice to see a new 300 f4 S VR and maybe the same on a 200 f4 macro.

I'm with you! I have been hoping the 80-400VR would be updated with new technology for a LONNNNg time and nothing from Nikon. I was also hoping there would be a D700X or whatever a cheaper D3X would be named. I have been shooting with the 5DMII and am absolutely amazed at the quality of the files with all those pixels. Like shooting with medium format!!
