Hello everyone!!
I would like to thank all those who attended the meeting Monday night. Our program consisted of our quarterly photo contest, and I gave a short presentation on sensor cleaning.
Members were informed that the CNPA Annual Meeting will be held on February 4-7, 2010 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Members can sign up using paypal online at the www.cnpa.org website. Presenters will be George Lepp, Tony Sweet, Bruce Dickson and Mark Buckler. The annual meeting will be at the Embassy Suites Greensboro Airport, and their phone number is (336) 668-4535. The special CNPA rate is $99 for a king suite and includes breakfast. The cost of the annual meeting is currently $110 through December 15, 2009. Between December 16, 2009 and January 15, 2010 the cost will be $125 per person. After January 16, 2010 only walk-in registration will be available at the door for $140.
An overview and slideshow of our last outing to Sylvan Heights was given by those who attended the outing. Our next outing will be on October 23-25, 2009 at Ocracoke Island and Portsmouth Island. We will be staying at the Anchorage Inn in Ocracoke with a special rate of $79.00/night. The telephone number for the Anchorage Inn is 252-928-1101, and their website is www.theanchorageinn.com. A boat service, weather permitting, will transport members to and from Ocracoke Island to Portsmouth Island on Saturday, October 24th, leaving at 7:30am. The cost of this service will be $15.00 per person roundtrip. We will meet at 5:00 pm in the hotel lobby on Friday evening, October 23rd, for sunset photography and dinner.
The Outer Banks Region's quarterly photo contest was held. We had a total of 24 images submitted for the contest. We had lots of wonderful images, and it was hard to choose winners as all the images were great. However, winners were voted by the members in attendance. Guy Livesay won 1st place with his picture of a frog. Bill Edmonds won 2nd place with his image of a deer, and Jay Wickens and Lori Cash tied for 3rd place. The 3rd place images were Jay's beach scene and Lori's black skimmer. Congratulations to all the winners. The winning images will be displayed as rotating images on the OBX website cover page for the month of November. We will resume the random cover page photo drawing for the month of December's cover page. Our next quarterly contest will be in January 2010. Details, deadline and topic of contest will be announced soon.
Members were asked if they had any suggestions for topics that would like to learn more about at future meetings. Flash photography was one subject that was mentioned. Lori asked members to send her an email with suggestions, if they think of any. Also, Lori asked members about places that would like to have outings to next year. The suggestions were Merchant Millpond in the fall, Sylvan Heights, Carova and Lake Mattamuskeet. The outings and program committees will be working on the 2010 schedule and will have them ready to give to Coordinator by November 1, 2009.
Our next meeting will be held on November 9, 2009 from 6:30-8:30pm at the Dare County Library in Kill Devil Hills. The program for our November meeting will be A Year in Review Slideshow. Also, the outings and programs committees will present the 2010 schedule to members.
