Hi, here are the details for the Aug. 22 outing to Frying Pan Mountain.

For those who want to photograph sunrise, we'll meet at the Pounding Mill Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway (it's at about MP 413, or about 5 miles south of the Pisgah Inn. Sunrise is at 6:53 a.m. Be sure to give yourself time to set up. Joe Hancock, who will be leading this outing, plans to get there about 6 a.m.

For those who want to sleep in a bit, Joe will be at the Pisgah Inn parking lot by 7:30 a.m. We plan to leave there around 8:15 and drive to Frying Pan Mountain (1 mile south). We will park on the side of the road at the forest gate and walk to the top of Frying Pan Mountain from there. Joe says the walk isn't bad -- he can make it).

We should see some late summer wildflowers and butterflies. The tower at the top is accessible and offers a 360 degree vista.

Afterwards, we can break for lunch. If there is interest, we may try to head to the NC Arboretum to shoot and view the CNPA Asheville chapter's photo exhibit. There is an entry fee to the Arboretum ($6 per car, I believe)

Equipment suggested is a normal to medium telephoto lens for sunrise and vistas and macro lens for close-ups. A diffuser and flash may come in handy as well.
