Hello everyone!!!
We would like to thank all those who attended the meeting Monday night. We all had a great time. Our program was a presentation by Vinny Colucci of Naturescapes Photography Workshops on "4 Keys to a Photograph." We would like to thank Vinny and his wife Kathy for their time and for a very informative presentation.
We had a brief overview and slideshow of our last outing to Wanchese by those who attended the outing. Our next outing will be on August 8, 2009 at Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge for sunrise, dunescapes and bird photography. We will meet at 5:15am in the parking lot south of the Bonner Bridge. I will be sending out an email with all the information on the outing.
Our two overnight outings to Portsmouth Island and Chincoteague were discussed. The Portsmouth Island/Ocracoke trip is scheduled for October 23-24 with 15 rooms blocked out for a rate of $79.00/night at the Anchorage Inn in Ocracoke. A boat service will transport members to and from Ocracoke Island to Portsmouth Island on Saturday, October 24, 2009. The cost of this service will be $15.00 per person roundtrip. Reservations at the Anchorage Inn have to be made by telephone. The number to the Anchorage Inn is 252-928-1101, and their website is www.theanchorageinn.com. Also, 10 rooms have been blocked out at the Refuge Inn in Chincoteague, Virginia for the rate of $92/night. The Chincoteague trip is scheduled for Nov 20 and 21, 2009 and will coincide with the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge's Waterfowl Week in which the wildlife loop road will be open to vehicular traffic from 9am to dusk. Also, on this weekend there is usually a large amount of snow geese arriving at Chincoteague NWR. The website for the Refuge Inn is www.refugeinn.com, and their telephone number is 888-257-0088 or 757-336-5511. When making reservations to either hotels, please mention CNPA for the special rate.
Lori Cash asked members to think about volunteering to serve on our outings and programs committees. These committees help decide and organize our monthly outings and programs for our meetings. Committee organizing will be conducted at our August meeting.
The Outer Banks Region's quarterly photo contest was held at the meeting. We had a total of 25 images submitted for the contest. We had lots of wonderful images, and it was hard to choose winners as all the images were great. However, winners were voted by the members in attendance. Dan Waters won 1st place with his picture of a seashell on the beach, Bill Edmonds won 2nd place with his image of an oystercatcher, and Bill Edmonds and Dan Beauvais tied for 3rd place. The 3rd place images were Bill's yellow-crowned night heron and Dan's bald eagle. Congratulations to all the winners. The winning images will be displayed as rotating images on the OBX website cover page for the month of August. We will resume the random cover page photo drawing for the month of September's cover page. Lori Cash is working on adding a contest page for winning images and an archive of past winners to the OBX website. Our next quarterly contest will be in October 2009. Details, deadline and topic of contest will be announced soon.
Our next meeting will be held on August 10, 2009 from 6:30-8:30pm at the Dare County Library in Kill Devil Hills. The program for our August meeting will be a presentation by Bill Edmonds on underwater photography. I will be sending out an email reminder about the August meeting.
Hope to see you at the August outing and meeting.
