Hi everyone!!
Our May outing will be on May 9, 2009 at Merchants Millpond State Park near Sunbury, North Carolina. We will meet at 8am in the parking lot of Merchants Millpond State Park where the canoe rentals and boat ramp are located.
You can rent a canoe at the park or bring your own canoe/kayak. In addition to canoeing there are nine miles of walking trails with many varied habitats. I would recommend bringing some food/snacks/drinks as there are limited stores in the area.

From Currituck County: Take 158 West at Barco and head towards Elizabeth City. Cross the draw bridge and turn right at the third traffic light (Road Street). It will come to another traffic light at the intersection with Hughes Blvd/Hwy 17. Turn right there onto HWY 17 north/HWY 158 west. In about 10-12 miles will be the intersection with a traffic light where HWY 158 continues west. Turn left there. Continue west on HWY 158 through Sunbury, a few miles thereafter on the left you will see Merchant Millpond State Park camping entrance. VERY shortly thereafter the camping entrance will be the intersection with Millpond Rd (SR 1403), turn left (south) there, and the boat house/rental area will be a mile or so on the left.
From Outer Banks:You can take 158 West through Elizabeth City and follow the directions above or take 64 West to HWY 32 North just outside of Creswell. Head north on HWY 32, through Edenton and near Hobbsville turn left on HWY 37 toward Gatesville, approx. 3.5+/- miles will be the intersection with Millpond Rd (SR1403). Turn right (north), approx. 2.5 miles on the right will be the entrance to the boat house/rental area.
Hope to see you at the outing.
