I noticed that these guys would dip their bills under the water two or three times and then raise up and flap their wings. It was very consistent and I got a lot of opportunities because I learned their patterns. A very important part of photographing animals in the wild.

The point about anticipating wildlife behavior is good instruction. Besides that, this is a great shot. So often we tend to think that an image of a more common species is not as valuable as an exotic and this shows that to not be true. Good work!

Very nice and like the motion in the wings.

good shot...classic "duck flap" photo. I would like to have also seen this with a much slower shutter speed and really blurred the wings during a full flap...just another idea.

Cool shot. I really like the water droplets on the head. Way to go with the shot & the explanation!
