I've just ordered a printer from B&H and I'm wondering what has turned out to be the "best" paper for use with this printer....I assume sticking with Epson is the best answer...but they have a myriad of papers. Their website apparently hasn't been updated to reflect the R1900, only going up to the R1800. I've sent them several notes but, apparently web business is a sideline for them.

Thanks for any info!

I recommend you stick with Epson papers ( Matte and Luster) until you get more familiar with the printer and dealing with different paper profiles. I bought a canvas roll from LEXJET last week and it took a few prints and lots of ink before I got the profiles and settings right.

Have fun printing!! It's awesome!!

http://www.lexjet.com/lexjet/ These people are awesome to deal with!! You can call them and they will give you free advise on your printer and papers. They also sell Epson papers even cheaper than the EPSON website or BHPhotovideo.

I have been using Red River paper on my Epson r2400 with great success. They provide ICC profiles which are spot on. www.redriverpaper.com (http://redriverpaper.com)

I have been using my R1900 printer for a couple of months now and have tried the H-P, Epson, and Arista papers all with equivalent results. However, I recently tried the Ilford Gold Fiber Silk baryta paper and was blown away with the instant and obvious improvement. I suggest you give it a try with a 10 sheet purchase and see if you like it as well as I do. Ilford's website offers starting point color profile settings for your particular printer.

My 2 cents worth . . .

I'm printing with an Epson R1800 and just started using Crane MuseoMAX paper. Even though it is a matte paper (which that model is not supposed to be as good with) it has a nice finish, holds great detail and really pops the colors. I've also heard good things about the Ilford but have not tried it.

And you gotta have the right profile for any paper you use, otherwise you might as well be using letter paper.

I hope yours prints better than mine. I still have not gotten a color correct print after several months of trying. I know the color management has to be done, but even with the profiles and playing with settings it is off. Yellow goest to orange, red goes to reddish brown. All on Epson Matte.

Bob,

Have you tried any paper other than matte? I was having some troubles with the matte as well, and it was Epson paper on the Epson printer, so I couldn't figure it. I started experimenting with some of the different surfaces and found success with some of the "satin" papers from Red River and Hawk Mountain. For some reason, my matte images started to look better.

I'm using an Epson 3800, and I'm trying not to waste ink, and too much experimenting was getting expensive - but it's the only way to learn!

I print on Epson 4800 and 3880 printers and my favorite surfaces are:

Ilford Gallerie Smooth Pearl
Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl
Epson Exhibition Fiber (excellent blacks) (very high DMax and expensive!!)
Moab Colorado Fiber Satine
Moab Colorado Fiber Gloss

I use color profiles from the manufacturer in every case and profile my monitors every month. Except for the differences between reflected and transmitted light, I get close to perfect matches between my monitor and the print.
