So I see that folks are considering to shoot down to P-town Island late summer or early fall.

I'm not sure if y'all have been over there or not before, but anywhere around the village itself in August, September, and into October will have mosquitoes unlike anything you have most likely ever experienced. If folks think that Pea Island is bad, it doesn't even compare to Portsmouth Village. This place is more akin to Alaska in August than North Carolina.

There are of course other alternatives if people did not want to deal with the mosquitoes. If you took a ferry from out of ceder island you could go to the southern end of the island away from the mosquitoes. However, it would make more since in my opinion if you were already down that far south to take a truck ferry over to core banks and have a vehicle to explore around, or even go ahead and shoot for Shackleford.

Portsmouth is a neat place, but once your on the island there will be a lot of walking to do in order to get around - much of it through salt flats (hence the mosquitoes) until you make it out onto the beach.

Just a little insider view of the area that time of the year. I typically wait till November to head out to Portsmouth

Cheers,
Jared
