We had a very good crowd at the Outer Banks Mid-Year outing last weekend. There were many fantastic images entered into the contest and we hope to have a slideshow up on the website soon of those images. This is one I took last weekend, hope you like it. 1DMkIIn, 500 mm IS, 1.4x TC, 1/500, f5.6, EC -2/3.

Comments or critique welcomed.

Like the blur in the wings rather than frozen.

Oh my!! :) :) :) Also wish I had been there. Maybe worthwhile to repeat this site for a meeting/outing in the future?

Robert,
It looks like you got the whole sequence. I like the action in this one more than the one you selected for the contest...there is more emotion in this photo. However, the lighting on the bird in your contest photo probably made it the right choice.

great job and I wished that I hadn't grabbed the wide angle late in the day while I was with you. I guess I can photograph willets anytime, though.

I like Don's suggestion...let's hold more of these out here...it was a blast having everyone out here!!!!

Robert,

For myself, this image is my favorite. I love the blur of the wings, which to me shows some "action". I think the overall colors in the shot are realistic. I think you picked the perfect shutter speed for this shot. In a perfect world, perhaps it would be a tad better if the bird was a little more above or below the water/wave line, but I myself have been unable to get those birds to listen to where they should fly for my camera. I have also been very unsuccessful with my experimentation in shooting from a pogo stick to get the angle I wanted. I would be proud to have this shot in my portfolio. Super job!
