Hello everyone.

We would like to thank all those who attended the meeting last night. We had thirteen members and three guests. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to speak with everyone last night, but I appreciate everybody's involvement and input. We would like to welcome new members, Jeanie Drescher and Dan Beauvais and the two guests who joined right after the meeting, Dan Waters and Karen Watras. We had a great time. We would also like to thank Dave Huff who shared his experience and images of his South Africa trip at the meeting. We all enjoyed seeing his images of the wilds of Africa and hearing about the details of his trip.

We would also like to thank everyone who submitted images for consideration for the banner image for our website. We had some great images to choose from, and the image chosen was a pelican panorama by Eve Turek. Also, Phyllis Kroetsch was selected to be the next member to have an image for the cover photo for the OBX website for the month of March. We would like to thank Katy Marchello for writing a very nice piece about our region and reading it to the members at the meeting. Unanimously, all members agreed to use Katy's written description of our Region on our website. Please check out the OBX website, www.cnpa-outerbanks.org (http://www.cnpa-outerbanks.org) as new info is being added. Also, don't forget to check out and use the OBX forum on the CNPA website, www.cnpa.org (http://www.cnpa.org).

For now our meetings for this year will be held at the Dare County Library in Kill Devil Hills. We had looked at moving our meetings to Elizabeth City beginning in the summer, but the public library there will not take reservations beyond the current quarter and the Arts of the Albemarle will charge a fee since they would have to have a staff member present for our evening meetings. At this time, members decided not to use money from our account to pay fees for a meeting place. We will continue to explore a more centrally located meeting place.

We do have a bank account with a balance of $452.75 as the OBX Region received a stipend this past summer from CNPA. There was discussion about purchasing a laptop projector for the OBX Region so we will be able to use it for presentations, contests, slideshows, and critiques. However, our current balance will not cover the price of a projector at this time.

The CNPA Annual Meeting is next month, March 12-15, in Charlotte and members that will be attending have decided to get together for dinner on Saturday evening. Attending OBX Region members will meet in the hotel lobby area at 5pm to go to a local restaurant for dinner. At the March 23rd meeting, the coordinators will brief region members on the happenings at the annual meeting.

Members decided to change March's outing from Alligator River NWR to Wanchese Harbor. The outing is scheduled for March 21stfor sunrise. An email will be sent soon with time and directions to where we will meet for this outing. Also, members planned outings for the months of September, October, and December. September's outing will be to Sylvan Heights in Scotland Neck. October's outing will be to the Great Dismal Swamp, and December's outing will be to Mackay Island NWR. We still need to decide the outing for August. If you have any suggestions please let us know.

There was discussion about the quarterly photo contest, and it was suggested that the topic will be "your best two images from the last quarter." Our first photo contest will take place in April. We will have the contests at the beginning of each quarter which will be in April, July and October this year. More details will be made at our next meeting in March.

Our next meeting will be March 23, 2009 from 630pm to 830pm at the Dare County Library in Kill Devil Hills. Grayson Via will be speaking about a National Geographic workshop he attended and some of his travels.

Look forward to seeing everybody next month at our outing in Wanchese.
