Taken in my yard in Lexington, SC early this morning. It could have used some fill flash, but I barely had time to get the camera and tripod placed at a window to make the shot before the owl flew away.
Canon EOS 40D with Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 EX with Sigma 2.0x extender, zoomed to 600mm.
Exposure 1/125s, f/5.6, ISO 1600. Cropped over 50%.
We have seen at least three Barred Owls on or near our property, but rarely in the daytime and rarely in a position to photgraph. This shot was made just after the owl left a tree for the ground to catch a vole.
