I believe this is a Four-spotted Pennant dragonfly. I cropped it about 50%. The shooting details are: 1DMkIIn, 500mm lens, 1/100 sec, aperture at f 9.0, EV comp -1/3, ISO 200.
Comments and critique welcomed.

Good shot Robert. I went to the refuge a few times this past summer. The only insects I could find were mosquitos. Or should I say, they found me!

I think what I need to do is go with you to photograph, let you set up your big lens and then let me click the shutter so I could say I took the photo! I may be asking you for an image for the new CNPA brochure.

Sure thing Bob, I'm always happy to show those from the "dark" side the benefits of shooting with a Canon.;)

Great image. I almost never have enough DOF to make me happy on a dragonfly shot. You did well!
We went through SNWR last Wednesday for about 45 minutes just before dark. I don't remember seeing a dragonfly, but we saw SEVERAL lovebugs & mosquitos!!!

This is a beautiful shot. The brown BG works well with the dragonfly. If only the twig came out of the corner instead of off the side of the frame ;) -- just kidding. Well done!
