CAROLINA NATURE PHOTOGRAPHERS ASSOCIATION

MYRTLE BEACH REGION

MINUTES FOR SEPTEMBER 16, 2007

Coordinator Kim Jones called the meeting to order. No treasury report was given due to Bonnie Eaglin’s absence. It was noted that Mark Hilliard was paid $400 for the Photoshop class last month, the post office box was renewed and new checks were ordered to reflect the name change at Coastal Federal to BB & T.

Old Business

Members are asked to sign in at sheets on table by entrance door at every meeting – updating any of their personal information as needed.

Kim requested an update on any equipment that had been purchased or donated by CNPA. The only items to date are the dark room equipment donated to Waccamaw High School. No other items were acknowledged at this time.

Marty Trifiletti from Waccamaw High School expressed her thanks for the equipment
donation and invited any member who wished to use the equipment to come by the school.
She also asked if any members would speak to her photography classes. Pat Schirtzinger
and Mark Hilliard both volunteered. Marty will coordinate a time with them.

Gallery 57 show – Kim reviewed the opportunity to present a show at this gallery in the winter. Suggestion was made to use black & white photography for the show. Mark made a motion that we participate in the opportunity, Pat 2nd – vote was unanimous. Kim will talk further with owners, determine criteria and timetable for the exhibit and e-mail members to see who would like to participate. Marty Trifiletti offered the use of Waccamaw High School’s matt cutter if needed for this exhibit.

Photoshop class – Mark was complimented on the August Photoshop classes & handouts.
Mark said there was one complaint that has to do with a different version of Photoshop
loaded on one of the computers. He will work with Linda Ketron to standardize the Photoshop software used on CCU’s computers for the next CNPA class.

Postcards – Mark has requested that members e-mail him any group photos from outings CNPA has taken in the past. He will present several layouts next month for the group’s review plus printing quotes.

New Business

Town Planner Calendars – Lori recently received an e-mail soliciting area photographs for
The Town Planner Calendars – a series of localized calendars. Kim, Ron Blanchard and Everett Baird responded with photos. The local manager for Town Planner Calendars asked if CNPA would be interested as a group to take photos of local events throughout
2008 – basically as “assignment” photographers. Kim motioned that CNPA take advantage of this opportunity to earn additional publicity in the area, Everett 2nd - vote was unanimous to do this. Kim will get information about the assignments. At the next meeting we will discuss designating a point person to work with the Town Planner Calendar representative. We will also review release forms that other have used for their photography. Pat requested everyone who had a release form bring in a sample for the group to review. Lori also suggested that we have a forms section on the Myrtle Beach CNPA site whenever it becomes active.

Favorite spot to Photograph – members are asked to bring the who, what, where, why of a favorite spot to photograph. This information will be distributed to members and possibly posting on the web site in the future.

Brookgreen Project – Kim mentioned a new project at Brookgreen that CNPA might be able to help with. A new birding/butterfly habitat area is being planned. Anne Malarich will check into the details but it was suggested we provide some manpower in helping develop the area or provide feeders. This could be a possible future Saturday group outing.
More info on the project will be reviewed at next month’s meeting.

Secretary/Treasurer’s Position – Bonnie Eaglin has asked to be relieved of the Treasurer’s position. Since the two positions have always gone to one person a motion was necessary to split this into two positions. Lori Grbich made the motion with a 2nd from Kim. Motion was unanimously passed. Kim then asked for volunteers to hold the position of Treasurer. Jim Braxmeier volunteered and was accepted as the new Treasurer. Kim will review the CNPA guidelines & financial reporting with Jim.

School photo competition – Mark Hilliard voiced an interest in revisiting the School photo competition – a promotion that CNPA had done in the past. Kim offered to see if any of the other regions did a similar contest. Concept will be tabled until we have addition info on the best way to do this promotion.

October outing & meeting. Outing will take place on October 20th –Mark made a motion with a 2nd from Lori to repeat September’s outing for October: Meet at Huntington Beach State Park for sunrise photos (time TBD) the meet at Huntington Beach Causeway parking lot at 10am to go to breakfast. After breakfast go to Brookgreen Gardens then onto to Paul’s Butterfly Garden. Timetable for each segment will be e-mailed to members prior to October 20th. Motion was approved unanimously.

October 21st meeting – topic is to bring information on your favorite place to photograph.
