I'm planning to drive to the Raleigh area, give or take an hour, and spend Wednesday night, October 10th on the way to the Outer Banks Outing. I’m looking for a place where I would be able to take pictures of birds & frogs early on Thursday morning. If you know of a place, please let me know. Thank you, Doug Ellingson, Asheville CNPA member, 828-687-8359.

I was at Eno River State Park yesterday (Fews Ford) (Durham) and saw 3 different frog species amongst the rocks & weeds in the river (and got a full frame immature common yellowthroat at 240 mm!!!). It would mean rubber boots or clothes you didn't mind getting wet. I went to the canoe launch & went upstream. Birds can be hit or miss there. Also saw LOTS of five-lined skinks. http://www.ils.unc.edu/parkproject/visit/enri/home.html

If you end up "short" in the Greensboro area, I've got lots of bullfrogs (at night only).

Few's Ford is one of my favorite photography stops. Another place that is amazing is the Chapel Hill botanical gardens. Tons of frogs, birds, mammals, reptiles, and just about anything you can name. An excellent place to stop. Prairie Ridge is in Raleigh and is also a great location for photographing birds, frogs, native plants, and insects. They even have a loggerhead shrike.
