Hello all, this may sound like a strange request. I have a friend that is coming to the U.S. from the Caribbean to shoot horseshoe crabs in the Chesepeake Bay on the Western side of Maryland. Since his trip is planned for the egg laying season, I notice that this coincides with bird migration, so I thought maybe some members familiar with that region might have some tips, such as locations and accomidations. Thank you all in advance and a healthy and happy New Year to all. Tom Franzson Asheville Region.

Hi Tom,

Here’s a couple of sites that may help in finding spots. Might get some local contacts from these or might want to check with Audubon groups in the area. These spawning tend to draw large flocks of birds to feast so I’m told.

As a general note to members interested in this phenomenon, there are several good areas in Ga. to check out. The south ends of both Little Tybee, and St. Catherine’s Islands are reported to be consistent spawning areas w/flocks of attendant feeding birds.

Assateague Island, VA in June is great.

Would that be through the Chincoteague NWR or by some other access point? And, when this is happening, are areas blocked off or is access to photograph this event fairly open? Thanks.

Assateague on the MD side! Can stay in Ocean City , MD. and 30min drive south for access to the Park! I would contact the Park Rangers about access and places to hunt!
