If the weather is reasonable (as the forecasts are showing me at present) I plan to be photographing from Carova to Ocracoke this coming week - 29th to the 2nd. The plan is to arrive late Sunday 28th, with base camp in a cottage in KDH a few blocks behind the Wright Mem. park. I'll be making the rounds (Pea Island, perhaps over to Mattamuskeet for a day, Cape Point and other places) looking for good shots.

If anyone is out and about in the area those days, my email and phone are in the membership listing. Gimme a shout and maybe we can meet up. Since the better half will be with me it'll limit my forays to short walks and a lot of shooting from the truck window. Maybe a few hours on the beach north of Corolla will net me a few more good shots of the horses. Will have to see what the weather and tides allow. Looking forward to shaking a few hands if possible.

Fred,
As of right now I have been working everyday this week except for this past Sunday. Working as a guide, I have to take what I can get this time of year and typically I dont know if I have a tour until late the night before or a couple of hours prior to the tour. I would love to get together and shoot this week but for this reason it makes making plans nearly impossible. If you get this, reply back with a rough itenerary of where you plan to be this week and if one day works out I will drive out to meet up with you.

Change of plans. I'll be staying for Saturday and going home either Sat. night or Sunday. So the plan is to go back to Pea Island for Saturday.

Went to Mattamuskeet yesterday (thursday) and got mostly herons and egrets, but saw my very first Pileated - in fact, 2 of them in the same tree right by the wildlife drive near where the drive splits around the tree heading in to the ranger office area. Saw some mergansers, but they were in too much shade and moving along too fast to chase. Went back to Pea Island this morning (friday) instead of heading home, and not only were the buffleheads still in the pool by the bridge, but there were two other males and more females on the pond close enough to the bulkhead to get some "ok' shots. Also saw a pair of hooded mergansers close enough to get some good "ID'" shots. Two lesser Scaup males and one female were there. Got some good shots of the male when another oblidging photographer pushed it my way. Got some fair shots of the female too. Haven't even downloaded the files yet to check them.

So I plan to be at Pea Island tomorrow,(Saturday) and maybe stop by Bodie as well if the mood strikes. When I get home I'll have better access to upload some pix.

Was really pleased to catch up with Mark Buckler, JB Wickens and Jared Lloyd already this trip. Look for the guy in the duck hunter camo at Pea Island and it'll most likely be me.

Oh, yeah. The meeting. Forgot about that since I wasn't expecting to be here for Saturday. Gotta go check the announcement for the time and see if I can squeeze it in. Jared, I guess you mean the same pond where I found you yesterday. I might can make it up before sunrise, but not sure. If I can come early enough to not disturb you, I'll try to stop by and see what's shakin'. Elsewise I'll go on down to Pea Island so I don't scare anything away for you. Good luck with it. Maybe I'll make it to the meeting. The wife is with me this trip, and she's taken a real shine to my 10D hand-me-down. She got some great shots at Mattamuskeet with it, and she's all fired up to do more, so I think I need to do all I can to encourage her new interest. If it means missing the meeting to help her out while she has a fire lit, then I may have to stick to tutoring while we have the opportunity. We'll see.
