I found this hummingbird(?) in the Museum of Life and Science butterfly house. cropped around 75%. Nikon D80 with Tamron 180mm macro lens. The quality is reduced slightly. Comments and critiques welcome.

It's a very pretty bird and you certainly captured a sharp image. For me the crop is a little too severe, there is not enough room in front of the bird.
Would like to see it with the subject slightly smaller, more room in the front if you have it.

I agree with Robert, nice image but cropped too tight. Can you post the original image for comparison?

Hmm, looks like a juvenile male purple honey creeper. To see the male look at:

This is a really good shot! I like the closeup of the head but I think leaving a little more open space to the right would have added to the image. I also found mine at a butterfly pavilion hmm, I think it was at magnolia gardens??? Oh well, my memory is going!

Here is a less cropped version. I agree this looks better. By the way, the photo on the link is good.

Also, as requested, here is the non-cropped image. I shot it with 10 megapixels and an ISO of 640.

Its a beautiful bird. I like the non cropped image the best. It would be possible to crop it abit and leave the entire bird in with room in front of it. Neat to see the cactus its sitting on.
Yes, I also like the full version. Crop a little and leave the bird on the cactus. Pump up the color saturation a little. You have a real winner here. Did you notice your reflection in the cropped version of the birds eye?

I agree. Crop it just enough to remove the distracting sticks at the right, but leave some of the cactus to show the environment. The out of focus background is good, complements the image very well.

Okay, here is the final edit. I agree, all of your advice helps it a lot. Thank you! And also, no I didn't notice my reflection. I think I can see it.

Now you're talking! This final crop turns a good image into a great image.

The final crop is the best. A good instructional series, I would like to see more threads like this posted. We can all learn from tips like this.
