I found this cottonmouth at the side of the a creek. My grandfather caught him with a snake stick and let me photograph him. I used a Nikon D-80 with 180mm macro lens. Comments and critiques are welcome.

WOW, that is a macro shot!!!

On the technical side, the DOF is so small, unreal to get such a focused shot. Great job, think I could rent your grandfather???:)

Oh my! Love the shot as its very different for sure. Assume your grandfather was holding him securely so you could get this close. Glad you didn't use a fisheye:D

HOLY COW!!! You are brave. I like snakes, but I use at least a 300 when I shoot them. This is a very nicely composed shot and a good example of an intimate portrait. Well done!

Thank you! Snakes are my favorite animals. I like to photograph them but have a hard time finding them. My fingers were 12 inches away and he was being held by about the top six inches. My lens hood was large enough to block a bite, and they prefer to remain in defense. I have a few similar shots in my gallery, but this was the best.
