This juvenile male sat on this branch trying to protect its food source. It was in vain because as soon as he would chase one bird away two more would fly in and feed. I was about 6 feet away and he would just sit and chitter at me to stay away as well! Canon 1DMK3, 400 DO/IS with 37mm of extension, two 580 ex flashes at -1 and -2/3 ev, f/6.3, 1/1600, 1600 ISO. You have to admire the high ISO capability of the MK3! I know that this is a black background, but its night!

Good shot, Mark. And flash at night does indeed look like flash at night.:)

I like the sharp detail.

Hey Mark,

Great to have you posting. Great detail and no noise even at the high ISO. This is a great example of where these DSLRs are headed. The black BG does not bother me at all.

I had to look at Sibley's to figure out how you knew this was a juvenile male, I guess it was the markings under the chin, absent on the female. Thanks for the lesson.

Looking forward to seeing more posts from you.

Another great hummingbird shot and glad to see you on the site Mark. Did you do any noise reduction in this shot?

No noise reduction. This is a great camera body and I am very happy with it!
