I kind of liked this shot of a female Ruby Throated Hummingbird as she left the feeder on our back deck in Lexington, SC. I am always fascinated by the irresdescence of the back feathers of these little birds. This was shot today with a Canon EOS 20D and a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 with a 2.0x teleconverter, zoomed to 270mm. Exposure was 1/125 sec., f/22, ISO 400, using high speed flash.

Very nice shot Don. But let me ask this, I have been having trouble attracting humming birds and was wondering if I might be offering the wrong kind of food. What are you using in your feeders to attract so many.

Don,

Another wonderful hummer shot, you are the master of the technique. If you would be willing to present a talk on hummingbird imaging techniques I'm sure the Midlands group would love to see it.

Your are clearly the master of hummingbirds with this shot another great example and probably my favorite of the ones you have posted so far. I would love to hear you present on hummingbird photography. I really like having very little of the feeder visible. Keep them coming. :) :)

Thanks for all the nice comments!:)

Doug: I use nothing special at my feeders, just a mixture of 4 cups of water to 1 cup of sugar. This stuff will ferment, so it is best to change every three or four days during hot weather.

Robert and Don: I would be willing to present a talk on my techniques. They are pretty simple, so the talk would not take too much time.

I had also been thinking about submitting an article to Bob Williams for inclusion in Camera in the Wild, but I managed to procrastinate until past the deadline of August 25 for the Fall edition. :o Actually, part of the reason for dragging my feet was uncertainty about whether there would be any interest in this.

Don & Don,

Let's move this conversation of a hummingbird talk to the Midland's Forum. I'll start it off.
