Here is another sandhill from several years ago that I shot on film. This one was down low and the background was in the frame. This can be a tough shot for many camera bodies but the Canon 1V is able to lock on the subject and keep it in focus.

I really like this, Robert! Composition is very good and I really like the position of the bird that you were able to capture. I also like the background that is out of focus. Even though he is down low, I think I prefer this background as opposed to being contrasted with a blue sky.
I do think that I perceive a slight bit of film grain, but that is a part of film photography and is not in the least bit distracting. What film and camera settings did you use?

Don,
Back then I shot mostly with a 500mm with 1.4x TC on Aperture Priority at probably f5.6, basically wide open. The shutter speed was as fast as possible. I used the Provia 100F Fuji film for many years. In fact I still have over 100 rolls in my freezer that I will use some day. I haven't used a noise reducing software as I like using what I get. This shot for example has never been printed or posted anywhere on the internet before. The grain is distracting for me also.

Nice shot overall and I don't find the very slight grain to be an issue at all. I must admit as I spend hours on the computer that I miss film alot, even though I enjoy digital a great deal. Don ie sisu
