Well not really, I've never had this many different species in the viewfinder at the same time. I think its an interesting shot and a good example of size differences between the ibis, wood stork, spoonbill, and great egret. I shot this last year at the Alligator Farm.

Really great shot, Robert! Not often is it possible to get several species in the same frame and all in focus. I am envious.

Know the tree well and certainly is unsual to get four different species on tree at same time. Probably taken in late afternoon - yes? :)

That place has some of the most beautiful light for about 30 minutes or so in the evening.

I love this! It's a real accomplishment to get 4 different species in one shot! You not only got 4 but it has perfect composition and light!!! I just have to go there sometime!:)

Alligator Farm is in St. Augustine Florida. Generally a place to shoot large wading birds. Birds in breeding plummage (beautiful) sometime in April and babies start I think in May, but babies may be more common in June and July. Many birds VERY close to the boardwalk from which you shoot (this is a zoological park with everykind of alligator etc.) There is a maybe 200 yard boardwalk that meanders thru the main natural enclosure for gators and there are small islands and lots of trees which tend to be loaded with birds. Photographers can get in early (with the I believe $60 photo pass - which is good for one year). Generally get in about an hour before the park opens. Best light however is in the late afternoon for perhaps an hour before the sun sets. The park is typically closed by then but there has always been one of the park employees willing to stay late to accomodate photographers (who generally make it worth the employees while). I have in the past led cnpa trips to the Alligator Farm and in fact Robert K led a trip there, I believe in the spring. Maybe we can put another trip together for next spring if there is interest. Its a very neat place with lots of stationary and flight shooting. It can of course get very hot, and there are generally lots of photographers but plenty of room for everyone.

You can also subscribe to a yahoo group that is updated by staff at the Aligator Farm to advise of activity. If you go to the AF website you can subscribe.

Robert, Awesome shot. How much did you pay the birds to roost on the tree for you?!
