CNPA Charlotte Region Outing Update
I visited Reynolda Gardens today June 16th. Some of the roses and flowers were damaged by the storm over the weekend, but the roses had many buds which should be well in bloom by this weekend. There are plenty of roses and flowers of every color available to shoot. You may want to bring something to kneel or sit on while you are taking photographs. Some of the grounds were quiet wet this morning. I would suggest a diffuser as well, as the sun is rising quickly this time of year.
If you have not received an email from me as of today, please send one to me to let me know if you intend to meet us at the Super Target as planned below or if you will meet us at the gardens. If you do not see the group when you arrive, walk around to the right side of the entranceway/greenhouse to gain access to the gardens. Do not get discouraged if you do not see flowers right away. The flowers with the blooms are mainly in the back area of the gardens right now.

Agenda
For those meeting in the Charlotte area, we will meet in the parking lot of the Super Target off I-85 at Exit 54 at 6:30 a.m. This is the Kannapolis Parkway / George W. Liles Parkway Exit and the address for Super Target is 6150 Bayfield Parkway, Concord, NC 28027. It takes about 1 ½ hours to get to Reynolda Gardens. If the time is too early for you to get up, you are welcome to join the group at anytime at Reynolda Gardens.
You may stay in the gardens as long as you like.
Chris Almerini of the Triad Group will lead us around the lake/wetlands area where you will have opportunities for birds and additional plant images. Also, there is a small waterfall over a stone dam in the area.
The gardens will not be closed to the general public during our visit, but this should not be a problem.
For those who would like to meet for lunch, we will eat at the Village Tavern within the grounds of Reynolda Village, and a short walk from the gardens.

About the Facility
The 129 acres known as Reynolda Gardens were part of the 1067-acre estate developed by Richard Joshua Reynolds and Katharine Smith Reynolds in the early twentieth century. 125 acres of woodlands, fields, wetlands, and a four-acre formal garden with greenhouse range have been preserved. Today Reynolda Gardens is a center for learning and quiet recreation within the city of Winston-Salem, N.C.
Photography Tips
The weather in June can be hot and humid, dress appropriately. There are shaded areas surrounding the gardens with benches for taking rest breaks.
Most of the gardens are in sunlight, but you may find having supplementary flash useful.
Dont forget to take a variety of lenses including a macro. There may be other photographic opportunities other than flowers while at the gardens (butterflies, insects, turtles, etc).
Tripods are allowed in the gardens, but will not be allowed in the greenhouse due to its narrow aisles.
See Ya Saturday!
