Many CNPA members from the Asheville region have inquired about Lost Cove Farm, the 128-acre private nature sanctuary near Marshall, North Carolina, owned by Connie & Pat Toops. We have been featured in Blue Ridge Country magazine (Sept/Oct 2006), a segment about hummingbirds in the National Wildlife Federation Backyard Habitat Program on Animal Planet TV, and some members of the region visited as a group to photograph here in 2005.

Based on photographers’ desires to learn more about attracting and photographing backyard wildlife, we are offering an upcoming workshop at Lost Cove that still has several spaces available. A brief description follows. Email if you would like us to send a more detailed activity schedule.

BACKYARD LANDSCAPING FOR NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY
Lost Cove Farm, Marshall, NC
Saturday, August 25, 2007, 9am – 4pm
Cost: $90/person (includes lunch and snacks)

Features two digital presentations: ATTRACTING AND PHOTOGRAPHING WILDLIFE IN YOUR BACKYARD and THE JOY OF BLUEBIRDS. Includes a walking tour of wildlife plantings, water features, photo setups and blinds at Lost Cove Farm. Participants will also design a personalized plan for a backyard photography habitat.

Note: You are welcome to bring a camera to take pictures during breaks and lunch, but the focus of this workshop is designing your own outdoor photo studio, not a hands-on photography session.

The maximum number of participants will be ten, allowing ample time for individualized learning. Please email to reserve a space. If you are accepted, we will request a non-refundable $10 deposit to secure your reservation. Upon receipt of your deposit, we will provide driving directions and other necessary pre-arrival information. Classes will be held in the Lost Cove cabin.

In addition to presenting occasional workshops, we rent exclusive use of Lost Cove as a private photo location. You may hike or take photos from our blinds during daylight hours for $100 per day. Or you can stay overnight in our cabin, plus use the photo blinds, for $150 per night (single or double occupancy). We still have some open dates during autumn color season and are booking reservations for spring 2008.
