Currently at Cades Cove for the next couple of days, thought I'd share the following info for anyone coming up this week, or thinking about coming up to the Cove.
The 17-year locust are emerging and the bears are very actively feeding on them; this afternoon during a 5-hour period I was able to view 7 different adult bears in three locations in the Cove. I was only able to photograph 2 of the bears.
Right now the bears are working the edges of the fields up and down doing a lot of standing up to get to the cicadas. The bears appear to be in excellent condition due to the great mast production last year.
The cicada are in the air and their signing is constant in all of the Cove; they offered some good macro shots when they land on fence posts, etc
